Kids' Fads and Cash

September 16th, 2010 at 09:23 pm

Or perhaps I should call this entry "Kidz Fadz and Cash"? DD has now officially hounded me into buying a package of Silly Bandz. But I made her spend "her own money" on the other two packetz. Our local card store is selling these for $3.99 and the clerk tellz me she can't keep them stocked fast enough.

For those of you spared this over-priced wackiness, see

I guess I'm glad I only spent $3.99. Sigh.

My kindergartener just asked me for some at the check-out counter of Michaels not an hour ago. I am lucky that his penchant for silly bands is fulfilled twice a week - he has a crush on his speech therapist because she doles them out after each successful visit!

Ugh! My cousin actually brought like six or eight packages for my kids this summer. My youngest is trading them daily at school. There are rules about when they can trade. Crazy!

I was hoping this fad would somehow miss our schools, knowing it was in other states in the spring, but seems to have hit. At least it can encourage kids to add, subtract, and classify, even to appreciate materials memory and elasticity.
