A Pressing Problem

April 23rd, 2013 at 09:29 pm

I've had a very productive day purging, sorting, and cleaning. But now my iron has completely stopped heating although there is power still to it. It also is leaking water. I foresee a Target trip tonight.
Anyone have an iron(clad) recommendation?

What are you ironing and why? Suggestion: Get garments out of the dryer still one minute to fully, totally dry - hang on hanger and clip bag clips on the end - to avoid ironing, irons etc. http://www.kitchenstuffplus.com/3081-OXO-SoftWorks-Plastic-Clip-Set.aspx

It helps to finger press placket and some items can benefit from a tiny spritz of starch.

Items that are folded need to be totally dry but likewise yank out of dryer ASAP, folding and smoothing on site. If items are wrinkled coming out of dryer, perhaps it would help to decrease the number of items.

Hope this helps reduce home chores.

i have no suggestions - i have no idea how to iron, although i admire people (like my sister-in-law) who have turned ironing into an art form! i just wanted to say that your word play made me giggle. Smile

This may seem strange, but I like to iron. I love how crisp the clotes look when they are done, esp., w some light starch. I iron my work uniforms, and my husban"s dress work clothes. And, when he was young, my son"s school uniform clothes. The best iron I thinh is a Rowenta. They last a long time, and iron well. Target does have them. I bought one on sale there.

We don't generally buy thinks that need ironed or will shrink if you accidentally put them into the dryer. I will say my MIL is flummoxed by this idea and keeps trying to buy us wool stuff. I tell her I don't have time to separate!

But, my iron is having the same problem. Mine is only for crafts and sewing though. You can trim wrinkly fabric!

Iron? You mean the element on the Periodic table I had to learn for Chemistry? Smile Sorry, no help here. I generally hang my clothes on hangars right out of the washer (other than undies and towels that go in the dryer.)

Oh stop, you're all making me laugh. I don't iron all that much, but some of DH's shirts do require some ironing. I think I need snafu over to remake my life.

About 40 years ago right after we moved into this house my late DH came to me w/2 questions one morning:

Do we still own an iron
Do you know where it is

I STILL have the same iron.
