Feeling Very Off-Track

August 16th, 2015 at 03:19 pm

I've been feeling very off-track lately. It seems like I'm not getting much done and am behind in housework and self care too. The house needs a solid pick-up, and I find a very full fridge and freezer hard to deal with. I think I officially have August-itis.

Causes? Uncertainty about DH's job (always and again), impending semester with lots to do, August-afflicted child who sleeps too late and hates the heat, travel hangover, delays in bathroom remodel bids, massive canning days that put off everything else, horrible edits and capstone projects that frustrate me, too many social obligations. I feel stuck.

Plan? Tomorrow (heat and aforementioned social obligation today) must be devoted to catching up. I may have to build in a reward to the child for helping me. Maybe even build in a reward for myself.

It's time to get financially back on track too. Back-to-school shopping was expensive as child now requires adult sizes. Yesterday I spent (ouch)$250 on jeans, pants, and shoes for her. The only upside now is if she outgrows those three pairs of shoes, I can wear them.

Tomorrow demands a list. Getting on that today. Wish me luck to get unstuck.

The dog days of summer are always hard to navigate! Also, you have a lot of your plate, which can lead to paralysis. I suggest to just focus on one thing, and get it done.

It's weird buying adult shoes now for my eldest. But the plus is we share a size. I expect this to be very fleeting though and he is rough on his shoes. But if he outgrows them before he destroys them... I hope you get unstuck!

I find it crucial to write a list at the end of the day. The following morning identify top 3 items that must be done as A List. I do my best to delegate a couple of items to the person who can manage to do the task and take delight in crossing two or more items off as 'not going to get done - cancel'. I like Bullet Journal identifiers as moving items forward offers more opportunity to eliminate as un necessary in the future. What do you think? What's the worst thing that would happen if something on the list got dropped?

I'm feeling a wee bit stuck too. Feel like I should feel more like doing housework, exercising, losing weight, doing something creative, etc., but what I really end up doing is lazily internetting for hours.

I have the motivation of my mom's visit in a month to get me off my duff and actually doing stuff (well ... at least this weekend. Have to see how long the motivation lasts ... even today it was waning.)

Hoping you get unstuck! Sometimes you just have to say "if I only get one thing done today it will be xxxxx" and just focus on that. Good luck Smile

I think August can be so overwhelming for many. I'm in the same boat feeling off track...kind of like where I don't know where to start to get everything lined up again. Done with helping daughter into college dorm. Now to help youngest get ready for her new school! I feel behind with bill paying too. Ugh.
