Free Bagels and a NSD

February 2nd, 2017 at 08:53 pm

Bruegger's Bagels was celebrating their birthday this morning, and I popped in for three free bagels. I (really) ate one in the car on the way to the university but saved the other two for DD who loves their Asiago bagels. Such a simple thing but a nice little treat for still very-frugal me.
My non-frugal office mate scolded me for not going out to lunch with DH while he's unemployed telling me I had no bills. Excuse me? No mortgage maybe, but plenty of bills still.

I had very good classes today which is always fun, and best news of all, my adjunct university offered me a summer class. It's composition--not my favorite subject, but still. That means I'll have summer cash when my regular university salary is over. That gives us a lot more breathing room and we could probably make it even if DH doesn't get a job. But I think he will. Still, a relief.

That's great about the adjunct position!

Hey, younger daughter is applying to U of WI - Milwaukee. She's ready for independence out of state, but only 90 min away and older daughter is reposed by an agency there!

Great news on the job! Well, one meal out probably wouldn't break the bank, but it interesting to see how others view how you should be spending your time.

Maybe we will go out one day, but what would happen to those lima beans if I couldn't hide them in his lunch? Honestly after teaching two brand-new classes I'm happy to go home. We have a nice cozy lunch together. My January stir-craziness is over as I'm busy at school. Laura--if she needs advice--or maybe a lunch or dinner with us, we'd be happy to see her. I hope she choose UWM; it's a nice school despite the budget woes.

I think the average non-frugal person knows just how costly being out of work can be so it is viewed as a calamity (because they generally don't believe they can afford to save) while the average frugal person knows that because they always save (because they know they can't afford not to save!) it would take a lot longer for being out of work to be a calamity as they have spent years building up their savings. I'm sure your household is not thrilled to be without DH's income but going out to lunch every now and then won't have a disastrous effect.
