Lots of "little" expenses

March 25th, 2008 at 04:57 pm

Our daughter has spring break this week, which unfortunately never coincides with mine. All this means is that she is with me at the university and that all adds up to additional expenses including parking, lunches out (a treat!), and ibuprofen for me.

I'm hoping for a calmer week next week!

You can buy ibuprofen in bulk cheap at Costco! Ha Ha. She will be grown up and gone all to soon, believe me.

Aldi sells a 50-count box/bottle of Ibuprofen for $.99 and yes, I have used it and it works no more/no less than any other Ibuprofen I have used, including Advil.

Why does it cost more to park with her there?

Our daughter is off this week, too. She's 12, though, so not a problem. DW only works part-time so it isn't much of an issue anyway. She'll be home alone for a few hours tomorrow morning and come to work with me on Thursday. Otherwise, DW and DD will be together.

I knew someone would ask me about the parking!
She's only 5 and she walks really really slow (or runs like a banshee). I also carry a bag with lots in it--my textbooks and papers and coffee cup and all sorts of assorted junk. DD wanted her DVD player and snacks and all that kid junk (crayons, coloring books, etc) with her, and I couldn't face my normal 6-block walk with all that, trying to hold her hand, and taking twice as long!

It was my own choice, but a necessary evil, I'm afraid.

Be thankful you can take her to work with you. Many places do not allow children to "hang out" at the office all day. Our company expects parents to either hire a sitter, work from home if they can, or take vacation time off. I suppose parents know that the spring break is coming well in advance and should make plans, but, it's hard!

Yeah, it is good. The University talks about being "family-friendly" and sometimes they are!
