Possum at the Door

December 8th, 2008 at 11:23 pm

That title either sounds like a children's book or bad omen to me.

Today after picking up DD from school I was greeted at the back door by a possum. Now we live in the suburbs and often have raccoons, deer, and even an occasional coyote, but this possum scared the heck out of me. People are telling me they think they're cute, but not me. Ugly!

No real financial news except the approaching end of the semester and the realization I have one paycheck left at my normal four class full time load.

The weekend was fun--full of friends and Christmas tree shopping and a few hours spent grading projects and reading papers.

I'm actively looking for ideas for Christmas for my 20-year-old nephew who lives in a frat house and is, according to my sister-in-law, hungry all the time. I'm thinking a homemade food basket with emergency supplies. Any one
have good ideas for things to include?

My ideas are beef jerky, micro popcorn, chex mix. Jar of peanut butter...seems like protein might be necessary for someone who is always hungry!!

You don't want to hear our possum story... wait yes you do because it is funny!! We had one that came and ate our cat food. It was in the dog/cat house and I climbed on the cat house and my kids held the door open, hubby layed on floor with BB gun and took aim... he shot it. It stayed in there!!! They closed the door... I shook the cat house, while standing on it and holding onto the fence... (I am only 5'3" so imagine this sight!). It came out... I almost climbed to the roof of the house, but ended up just climbing part of the fence... hubby and kids were on the floor rolling! Possum left. Guess who was stuck on the fence and hubby had to get them down because they then decided that they were afraid of heights!!! ME!!!! LOL

I shoved DD in the house and yelled at the possum. It didn't seem too upset at my yelling-- Icky pointy pink nose. ugh.

    kdmoffet--that is one possum tale!

Thanks all of you for your suggestions for my nephew. I'm using some of the Mypoints deals for gift cards and doing a big food basket with your suggestions included.
