Today's Conundrum

July 15th, 2013 at 03:13 pm

I ordered some things from Kohl's last week--summer shorts, pjs etc. Pleased as punch because I got Swagbucks, free shipping, and a promo code, I like everything we received. But also in the package was an swimsuit we didn't order for an 18-month old. I wasn't billed for it, and it wasn't on the packing slip, but the packer must've put it in the box with our things.
I phoned Kohl's who said to either keep it or return it next time I'm in the store. Yet I know, like Target, it's hard to escape from Kohl's without buying anything. I had two alternate strategies: donate it to the charity shop since I don't know anyone suitable for this swimsuit or list it on ebay.

Hmm--what to do? Should it just go back to Kohl's?

Well, if you really don't want to go into Kohl's...then I think I'd list it on Ebay, but charity is always good too.

If you don't want to go to Kohls, then I'd donate it and pay it forward.

I would say if you really can't go into Kohl's to take it back, I would donate it. The good karma you would get from donating it would outway the couple of dollars you would make on ebay.

I would do either - both are good options. I am not sure how much the swimsuit is worth, but you could also sell it on eBay and then donate part of the money and keep part of it.

Or do you know anyone with an 18 month old that might like the suit?

**Just realized I put outway instead of outweigh....just wanted to post a correction for my own well-being. Smile

A similar thing happened to one of my customers, she returned it to my store and we just put it back out for sale. There was nothing else we could do.
I'd say donate it if you don't want to go back, or give it to someone with an 18 month old.

I'd say return it to Kohl's. No option other than disposing of it is bad, but it is actually Kohl's property and rightful owner and therefore since you know this, you should return it to them. I would not make a special trip to Kohl's to return it, though, unless you only go once a year.

I agree with Wino. Although you aren't at fault, it IS Kohl's property and you should return it. Go directly to customer service and directly back out the door. Easy, peasy.

It's interesting that Kohl's doesn't see it as their property as they said it could be kept. I think they consider this simply a cost of doing business, that there will be errors.

Kohl's really seem not worried about it. I think the swimsuit retailed for about $15. Still pondering this one.
