Financial Stall

May 26th, 2015 at 10:03 pm

Lots of expenses this week including DD's camp funding, DH's car's exhaust, and our increased food budget from a week with guests.

My dear governor's refusal to take Obamacare funding has caused a budget shortfall which has meant he has again squeezed the university. We've just heard our health insurance premiums will rise as will co-pays and deductibles in 2016, so I need to schedule all sorts of medical things this year/summer. This latest bit has really increased our desire to get out of here. It's a very ugly climate at the university right now, and many of my colleagues are taking retirement bonuses which help them but will hurt our ability to deliver in many areas.

Happily (sort of), I've been offered another adjunct class in the fall which will help, but really load on the work. I need to use the summer as wisely as possible.

I held off buying anything this weekend in Door County except for some nice meals and a couple of jars of jam.

In other minor news, I sold a shirt and sweater on FB today, adding $7 to my totals. And my radishes and lettuce look very happy.

I love Door County! Went to a very memorable fish boil there years ago! (Yes, boiled fish can be VERY good!)

I just had to google Door County Smile

Door County is lovely and we had a fabulous time. It's not that far for CB; she should come up some time! Perhaps a bit far for our Scottish friend, but as she knows, she could make some cash selling British food there!

I hope you find some relief/other means for future employment. Isn't so lovely how politicians can play so loosey goosey with their citizens livelihoods just for politics sake? (/end snark)

Oh, he's got to do this, so he can look extreme-right enough for a presidential bid! Seriously though, if you guys don't make it to England, come to Minnesota! We've got problems, but compared w/Walker's reign our governance is utopian.

I do love Door County, although saying that right after my snarky comment reminded me how deep red they were on the election results map last year. Keeping Walker in power for god knows what reason!

I'd come back to Minneapolis in a heartbeat. We spun some scenarios with the Brits this weekend, trying to figure out where and what we'd do. None of our scenarios kept us in Milwaukee any longer than we have to be.

I better start selling some British food then Smile
