Working Day

July 15th, 2019 at 08:53 pm

I needed to get some serious work done at the university today so spent the day there. I brought lunch so my only expense was coffee. I did sneak a little time looking at Amazon Prime deals but resisted. And we had a frugal dinner of chicken pitas with some tzatziki sauce and the last CSA cucumber. That and some bean salad made for a light meal of mostly leftovers. We're still in fridge clean out mode, but am gradually clearing it. I need to find some time to make coleslaw and will throw the first of the kohlrabi into it.

It's been hot and looks hot all week. Still haven;t gotten around to listing anything except a mousetrap game--no takers so far.

Another work day ahead tomorrow. DD is enjoying her new job. I'm thinking of investigating IRAs for her. I'd happily match whatever she can deposit. Anyone have experience with IRAs for minors?

Great idea about the IRA. Etrade was easy to do a taxable, custodial account for a minor. Minimums were easy to meet for granddaughter 's first account. ( I couldn't talk her into an IRA or even better a Roth.Reminds me I am going to work on it again.)

Yes, you can open a custodial Roth IRA at most major brokers, Vanguard and Fidelity, ect. You still may need to meet fund minimums to open the account. I've thought of this a few times for my oldest with her part time job, but really was already throwing a ton of money towards college expenses. I do need to start prompting her to make it a plan to get started soon, as we know time is so helpful.

Thanks CCF. Checking with Vanguard and Fidelity now. I found old statements for my first IRA contributions from around when Julius Caesar ruled the Roman Empire. If I could get her started before she's 18, that would be very fun.
