Don't Let them Eat Cake?

July 21st, 2008 at 08:13 pm

We had a 6th birthday party for DD this weekend and the bakery sent my husband home with the wrong flavor (NOT CHOCOLATE!) cake.

This all happened about an hour before the party. So what does the bakery tell me? That if I wanted a refund, I shouldn't have served it. This to a woman with a houseful of 6yearolds wanting the Surf's up cake.

I'm calling the store manager!

On yet another former rant, check on yesterday's NYT for an article about foreclosures and the foreclosee's penchant for designer handbags.

Once a prominent bakery here made a cake for me for Hubby's birthday, and evidently they'd had a big rush right before that date. I got a decidedly barely decorated cake that seemed to be done by the least trained person in the place. Now, I don't mind someone who is not proficient doing the cake, but it wasn't even close to what I wanted. I couldn't do anything about it because I had company there for his day. I didn't order one from there again, nor did I recommend them to anyone either. Offset that with an amazing woman who moved away, but not before making DD some pretty amazing unusual cakes. Sigh. I miss her. Hubby's last birthday cake was not made right either, but I had the time to make them do that one over. (Different bakery.)

We had this happen, too- also, one time we had Andrew's party at McDonald's...and they knew nothing about it, so we drove all the kids to the park and ordered pizza.

I think kids' birthday parties are really stressful--and I realize it's me that brings the stress to the party, but I now understand why people outsource them!

...I don't understand their point of view about not serving the cake...I mean, you HAD to cut it to know it wasn't the one you ordered...so, they would've taken back a cut cake?...and, yeah, I can just imagine: kids, it's the wrong kind of cake, let's not eat it so we can receive a refund/ get a new one!...that's just crazy!...They owe you a new cake!... they owe you the cake you ordered!
