My Personal Pantry Challenge

August 11th, 2008 at 03:42 pm

Yesterday was pretty fun as DH returned home from England with all sorts of goodies, including hand-me-downs for DD from her favoUrite cousin and all the British cooking magazines I love etc.

DD went to a funny birthday party at a pet shop and had a great time. I managed to delay the adoption of the "free fish" she was given a credit for until I check Goodwill for fish bowls. I don't think I want to spend $5 on a pet store fishbowl for a fish with a life span of a week or so.

So with all this plenty surrounding us, I've challenged myself to walk an hour a day and buy only dairy and produce for the next few weeks. We have tons of stuff in the freezer and pantry, and I'm going to stir up some wondermeals from them.

Tonight--Tikka chicken masala

It is amazing what one can come up with when they do a thorough anaylsis of what remains in the pantry and freezer. Yesterday we had rice, frozen Oriental vegetables, and chicken marinated in Honey Garlic sauce. Very good - and a surprise. Didnt know what I had until I checked my food stash ...

I love Chicken Marsala and would love for you to post your recipe for the Tikka Version.

Good luck on keeping your costs down and checking out your pantry inventory.

oh dear, I'm having gender problems? I need to get some new shoes! Or a better haircut?

And anyway, it's chicken masala not marsala which I also love, but this is indian chicken tikka masala.

Wrong ethnicity for the food and wrong gender for me. I'm cracking up here

Nonono, that's OK! (Don't want you hubby to into hot water on my account.) Actually, I chronically underestimate the number of men that is in this community. It really is a shame that more men are not interested in frugality.

Anyways, thanks for the culinary lesson. Learn something new every day. Big Grin

DH is born frugal--it's the cheapo English way he was brought up. He rarely buys beverages, always saves food and doesn't buy anything except books and the occasional electronic item and some beer.
I would hate to be married to someone who spent too much. It would give me chronic anxiety. We almost always agree on money. Now neatness issues? That's a whole other country...

Post a wanted ad on craigslist for the fish bowl. Or check the free section.
