What's "Shovel-Ready" at your house?

March 6th, 2009 at 06:50 pm

After listening to endless discussion on construction projects that are "shovel ready," I've decided we have three projects at that point.

1. Central Air conditioning
2. Basement Remodeling
3. Tankless Water Heater

We're ready to roll and to hire people on all three of these when the government decides to give us an economic stimulus.

What are your shovel-ready projects?

My roses :-(. Seriously, I'm almost ready to make my front lawn and entry presentable, and to get my garden prepared for what is hoped to be bountiful growing and harvesting seasons.

Our house needs pressure washing and all new tile put on the back porch. Fortunately, I am married to a man who can do almost everything, so he will take care of this when the weather warms up.

Solar panels (maybe next year), and the backyard patio

I've already started getting part of our stimulus! My paychecks (2X month) went up $33. That's mostly going to EF/baby fund savings, so I guess you could say my "shovel-ready" project is trying to get pregnant, which I will start at the end of this month. Smile

Our house could use a paint job and I would like to replace the fence before it blows over. (This year hasn't been near windy as usual - knock on wood). Basically would like a redo of the shoddy outside job our builder did in 2001. Not much complaint about the inside though.

It absolutely amazes me no one in our entire neighborhood has painted their house. Didn't want to be the first. But it may be a good time to find available and affordable labor. (I've also kind of been wating for a neighbor to approach us on the fence. Boy, I thought we were home improvement procrastinators!)

Lot of smaller things. Install basement backflow valve. Scrape and paint back porch and front door. Wash concrete patio and sidewalks (so boring!), Plant five miniature apple trees. Get a second look at the possibility of getting some insulation under the roof (there's no attic.) Add some trim to corners of garage and paint its window trim.

Peas, with lettuce on the way.
