Usual Saturday Errands and a Hygiene Question

June 6th, 2010 at 02:45 am

After dropping off DD at her French lessons, we went to have breakfast and coffee at the local Einstein's Bagels. They delivered our bagel/egg sandwiches to the wrong table, and I saw the folks there pick up the top of the bagels, peer into both of them and then return them to the counter. I was unsure of whether we should eat them after other folks had handled them, but I didn't want to make a fuss when they arrived at our table.
Now was I being reasonable? Or is that too many hands on our bagel sandwiches? No one sneezed on them, and the other people looked, well, relatively clean. But the people next to us overheard us muttering about it and felt we should have asked for new sandwiches.

What's your verdict?

I mailed four ebay sales and returned a jacket DD didn't need. More fun, I sold more of her clothes on Craigslist. All in all, I'm adding $157 to my sales total for all the misc we've sold in the last two weeks.

Sorry, but how do you know there wasn't E.Coli on the hands of the customers who had just touched your bagel tops. Yuck! In Maryland, it would be illegal to do that. Ugh. Definitely a return. The server should know better. No tip for that person.

Yes, I would have asked for new sandwiches, too.

I would definitely have asked for new sandwiches. The restaurant shouldn't have given them to you after someone else had handled them.

I would have asked for new sandwiches. You never know where someone's hands have been, no matter how clean they look.

    I would have eaten them.
That's what my immune system is for. Wink

The odds are pretty low that you will get sick, but I think you should have received new sandwiches and definitely asked for them since you saw the hands touch them!! It's just the right thing for the restaurant to do.

The restaurant should have automatically made new ones if sometone had touched them. I definitely would have asked for new.

We probably should have asked for new ones. Our daughter has a 45-minute French lesson, and I'm sorry to say the time pressure probably interfered with our decision making. Oh well, so far we're still alive.

Hmm, I seem to be the only oddball here who would have eaten it! Smile That's OK!
