You've never heard of a dictionary?

Sorry to complain about students already--but I had several today that complained because there were words they didn't know in a story I assigned. I got a big laugh with my line, "Do you know the word "dictionary"?"--but I really shouldn't be that sarcastic.

Other than my caustic comments, it was a quiet enough day. Our local upscale grocer is having daily specials on things folks buy a lot. DD has been drinking smoothies for breakfast so I bought some 19ct/lb bananas. Such excitement!

    I have an adult friend (late 30s) taking classes now. She complained about all the big words she didn't know. All I could do was tell her to look them up - how else was she supposed to learn new words? Is it that difficult a concept?

    Aw man, I loved finding new words in text, it was my precursor to finding Easter Eggs in software. I was teased for awhile for composing a list of acceptable and rare Scrabble words from James Joyce's Ulysses. I read a book assigned to my fourth-grader last week, and I had to look up words in it!

    Hey Paulette! I've got a fourth-grader too! I'm learning a lot about the arcana of Greek mythology from Percy Jackson. I thought I knew my myth, until I tried to sort the Greek from the Roman without as perfect a record as I'd like.
    No walk yesterday except my parking spot to classroom--which is 1/2 a mile.
