I spent half the morning at the dentist where they replaced an old filling, redrilled it, and gave me a new one. Unfortunately for me, the dentist had a heckuva time getting the separating band off once she filled the tooth. After 15 minutes of hard pulling, she had to extract some of the new filling to get the band off, then redrill a bit more and refill. I was not amused. I came home looking like I'd been through the wars, took three ibuprofen and went to bed for a couple hours.
I got up after noon, couldn't open my mouth much and started grading papers and making chili. That lasted until DD came home from school. She'd had an upsetting day, so we relaxed, read Roald Dahl and C.S. Lewis, and hung out.
Total spending was $135 out-of-pocket money for the dentist and another $18 for an evening family hike next week. Much more grading to do.

Banned Books Week starts tomorrow! My kid already has two books he wants to read (except we don't want him to just yet, oh the irony of Banned Books Week).

Curiously this is quite the topic here in Cheeseland lately as some state law mandates the use of butter in various state agencies, including the prisons, unless someone explicitly asks for margarine. The papers have been rife with pictures of Wisconsin housewives of the 1950s and 1960s driving across the Illinois state line to purchase the contraband margarine. The idea that butter MUST be used in prisons is funny, as is the "reform" effort to correct that.
