Monday Moves

October 4th, 2011 at 02:54 am

Not much shaking here. My classes went well, and I showed a 1968 documentary called "The Salesman" about door-to-door Bible salesmen. It was made by the Maysles brothers before they made "Gimme Shelter."

I sold a book, paid for postage, and that, apart from my caffeine fix, was the only money spent today. The money-in-the-bank soup was excellent.

Have you seen any Errol Morris documentaries? I keep meaning to. Did the Maysles do "Grey Gardens" or am I thinking of some other film-making team?

Oh, I loved "Grey Gardens" and occasionally have the conversation about the girdle with my mother (as you can tell, I see us Big and Little Edie).

I watched "Capturing the Friedmans" with my daughter on Sunday. I guess I'm entering the documentatry phase of my viewing habits. Might check this one out.

That documentary sounds interesting....it's one of those things you never thing about anymore, but i remember guys would come to the door selling vacuums and all kinds of stuff.

I'm on a documentary roll here too. Because they're business majors they'll be seeing the film about Enron "The Smartest Guys in the Room" and "Inside Job."

Unfortunately none of them are very uplifting messages about business and those two raise my blood pressure and lower my endorphins.

But I do recommend "The Salesman." It's very slow moving which is difficult for some of them, but fine for me.
