Pioneer Clothes?

January 27th, 2012 at 06:38 pm

My darling daughter's school is having Pioneer Week and they want them to dress in 1864-style outfits. I've put a wanted call on freecycle, but wonder if anyone out there is SA-Land has an idea. The stuff on ebay is WAY too much for this one-time frolic.

I considered begging at an Amish settlement, but not sure I'd be welcomed with open arms!

I'd think any kind of plain dress with a full-length apron to pass for a pinafore would work.

Anything wool, cotton, or linen. Printed or plain. Even a very shapeless dress made about like a dashiki if she is under, say, 12 years old. Of course your daughter would probably not enjoy wearing that, but not everyone had nice looking clothes for everyday. Don't forget the hat, cap, or bonnet of some sort.

Think Little House on the Prairie.
