Quieter Today

February 22nd, 2012 at 07:51 pm

I seem to be slowly getting caught up on things. I have another hour of grading left today, but really enjoyed having the night off from cooking and having pancakes last night at the church dinner. We met a few people we didn't know, and enjoyed our quiet time there a lot.

Both DH and I have decided to knock out the wine and liquor for Lent. If I appear cranky, let that explain it. No sweets for us either. We both tend to reach for them for quick comfort. Instead I'd like longer-lasting comfort like exercise, sleep, and nurturing.
That's my plan.

I'd written some Lenten suggestions yesterday for myself: Rosary every day, exercise, organizing (paper pushing), almsgiving weekly among six worthy local charities. Also get Paula Huston's Simplifying the Soul book for Lenten challenges. I have a book promo podcast I started listening to yesterday.

On Shrove Tuesday we went out for pancakes and saw a Jewish classmate of my boy's dining with her dad!

Good luck with your Lenten sacrifices. Hope the temptations don't get too tough.

Money-Saving Mom had an interview with the author of _A Seat at the Table_ and it again got me thinking. Paulette: Is the podcast you're listening to available somewhere where I can access it? I really feel the need for quiet and simplicity. I've given myself a few "outage" days for already planned margs with friends.

I didn't get the book today but I did listen to the podcast.
