DD and I abandoned other errands to go see President Obama today. The virtues of living in a swing state? I've never felt so desired in my life. It was a long day of waiting and listening to speeches--but I think it's great for a kid (and her mom) to see the President of the United States. We spent nothing on it, found free parking, then went to a friend's post-Halloween party.
Tomorrow to the errands--after a round of teaching Sunday School.

Funny enough Obama's grandfather grew up in the small Kansas town both my paternal and maternal grandparents are from. My great uncle went to school with him, obama went to his home, and he has been heavily interviewed. BUT he is staunch Republican and not that thrilled about it. Ha! I saw some of the interviews - I think he liked the attention a bit.

Once ex-h, the kids and I saw then-President Clinton. We had gone to Monterey for a few days, not knowing he was scheduled to make an appearance. There was a stage set up outdoors and he addressed the crowd regarding some coastal issues. Hillary and then-Vice President Al Gore were present as well. We were not able to get close enough to hear a word, but close enough to recognize each of them. The kids were little then, so bored by the whole thing. Ex-h and I were not terribly fond of Clinton, even so, it was quite a thrill for us to see the President. Ex-h also enjoyed seeing the Secret Service officers working the crowd. (Ex-h is in law enforcement.)
