My New English Castle

January 18th, 2013 at 10:38 pm

After some assorted troubles, students overloaded with luggage, very problematic snow in London, all has actually gone well, My rental flat is cute and nice, the landlady is great, no real problems. I ventured out into the snow and did a bit of grocery shopping--realizing i forgot how to shop for one.

Going to catch up with some needed sleep now.
More tomorrow...

Ah my friend up in Rugby told me there was panic buying at Sainsbury's yesterday, but probably not horsemeat.
Seattle also grinds to a halt when there is snow, but think how hilly the landscape is, and how unused to snow the denizens are.
Did you get to go to any Charing Cross bookstores? Or any Blue Plaque history sites?
What borough are you staying in?
Fun fact to share with your students: An international survey of 12,000 paintings between 1450 and 1960 didn't find one British picture showing a clear blue sky.

My fifth grader just read a tall tale about how the white cliffs of dover were formed!

Looking forward to following your journey.

Sounds like it will lead to a wonderful stay, glad that the landlady is nice. That's always some insurance for one less headache! Enjoy your time in London...

Hi Folks: You can tell I've been busy, yes? Paulette--I'm in Haringey, just down the road from Highgate. I've been to LOTS of bookstores, including a few in Charing Cross as my suitcase was very overweight and some books had to be jettisoned before I left home. Thankfully I found a couple of them at Oxfam for 2 pds or less! I'll be here 12 weeks, and I'm horribly in love with it all over again.
