The local Chase branch seems to think I'm a multi-millionaire. I get a checking offer at least once a month, and now they've started calling me with checking offers. But as an ethical protest against big banks, I switched to the university credit union, and have no intention of switching.
But today's offer got my attention. Leave $10,000 in a savings account with them for 90 days and get $150 bonus. I can do that, and although they're betting on my inertia, it's too good to pass up.
I intend to spend the evening poring over the fine print.

I took advantage of that one two years ago. Be careful when you try to close the account. They reversed the $150 bonus. I didn't read the fine print that said that the account needed to remain open either six or twelve months to "keep the bonus". The banker was able to help me out to keep the bonus money, but I think I needed to keep $3,000 of the $10,000 in to avoid fees. I took out the remaining $7K and put it back at my normal bank. Just see what is says about keeping the bonus and the duration the accounts need to be active. But I am with you: free money is free money.

I will have to keep an eye out for something like this. I am so used to being ineligible for checking rewards (no direct deposit, and if there are workarounds they usually seem crazy complicated for my own purposes). But, these savings rewards are awesome! I can't help but wonder if I threw some in the trash without paying attention.
Maybe "savings rewards" are the big rewards to shoot for this year.

My most recent offer from Chase (there is a branch located at the end of my street) is open a checking account with $100 and after 60-90 days (don't recall which it is) receive $200. SOLD! ;-)

I didn't bite. Yeah, 5% a month is nice but somehow there always seems to be a hidden PITA hook.

This seems easier for me than the credit cards--which I've also done, but to just dump it in there and wait for a few months is easier for my addled brain than tracking the credit cards which we did with the original Chase card. Although I'm completely with Pauline on her dislike of Chase--just thinking about their snaky CEO raises my blood pressure--I'm not averse to taking their money.
I'll keep you all posted!
