It's Me! Live from London Town!

Hello my friends,
I'm back in London and it's been (aargh) two months since I've posted. But it's time to start up. It's been a very busy two months, partly for some sad reasons. I think I posted back in November that a dear friend had been diagnosed with cancer. Indeed, she was my best friend for many many years. Less than six weeks after diagnosis, she lost the fight, and it's been a very hard emotional coming to terms with it for me. My DH says I'm worse than when I lost my mom, but my mom was 91, and my friend was 49. Strangely, or perhaps not so strangely knowing this friend, I'm convinced she's haunting me, or at least hanging out with me. But that's a story for another time.

So, here I am back in one of the world's most expensive cities, but it's glorious to be back. It's getting late, but I'll post again tomorrow about the trials and tribulations of the academic budget in the Big Smoke.

    Sorry about your friend. Wow, 6 weeks, that is just horrible.
    Kind of makes one wonder how much to live for the future and how much to live now.

    Sorry about your friend. Maybe the loss magnified your loss...your mom is gone and now your friend.

    Hi! A sudden loss can take a long time to grieve! I'm not sure I'm over my mom's death and that was 15 years ago.
    If you're going to be in London in the next four weeks, why not take in "City Lights" at the Barbican Centre Silk Street London EC2Y 8DS, 16 February. I saw it at the Dominion Theatre on Tottenham Court Road decades ago. Could be a laugh/blubberfest.

    ((Hugs)) I was just thinking about you two minutes before I saw this post!! I realized we hadn't heard from you in awhile. I'm so sorry about your friend. I can imagine that is very, very difficult. We choose our friends not blood relatives...I sometimes think those are much deeper relationships, thus even a bigger loss.

    Happy to see your post, you were missed. You've escaped brutal winter weather. Has London been spared this unusual cold, snow front?

    Sorry to learn your friends has lost her battle with C. I hope wonderful memories helps lessen your grief {{{Hugs}}}. How are your students, hope they follow instruction and help you enjoy your stay. How are you coping with costs? How do they compare with USA prices? What is causing financial pinch?

    I've missed you and have been a bit worried! I'm glad you're back but sorry about the loss of your friend. Sometimes cancer can work fast like that; we lost a coach at our college six weeks after he was diagnosed with leukemia. Everyone is pretty rattled. It can be hard to process a loss that happens so quickly so be extra kind to yourself. Glad you're back in London!
