Continuing About the Same

January 24th, 2017 at 11:39 pm

But with some hopeful lights. DH had another phone interview today that he thought went well. And someone from his small group at church forwarded his resume to some of his contacts.

I began teaching my Health Science Writing classes today. They seem like a nice and varied bunch, and the classroom is much better than my MW classroom. I also made a mug of tea in the office hotpot instead of picking up my usual coffee. It will do just fine.

My only spending today was on antiperspirant for DD's gym bag supply which I bought from CVS with ECB and a coupon. I also picked up some milk while there to get the ECB bargain. Total outflow $5.37 with $1 ECB. More leftovers for lunch punctuated by a big BBQ sauce accident. DH and I were eating leftover pork tenderloin on buns. He decided to shake up the BBQ sauce, but I had already taken the top off. Several cupboards, the kitchen rug, the counter tops, floor, and dog all got quite a spattering.

Such is January in Cheeseland.

Oh my, what a mess BBQ sauce can make! Hope dog helped with clean up. Triggered a trip down memory lane...One spring the kids and I chose to make root beer. Big time project collecting, cleaning and sterilizing glass beer bottles. Day #2, mix connection, slowly, carefully, pouring into bottles. Capping is a special, one day effort. The bottles must lie on their sides to ferment but the only free area was the top of kitchen cabinets below ceiling. DSs had such fun climbing the kitchen ladder, standing on counter and taking turns balancing on a stool to place bottle after bottle toferment

Meanwhile their thick headed mom forgot heat rises! As we excitedly marked day after day on the calendar, the Root Beer continued to ferment...soda-like. Just 2 days before anticipated completion we were all out for an after school event and returned to an odd smell. Kitchen floor was sticky but when we turned on the light we saw to our horror, trickles of Root Beer running on the outside of cupboard doors. Pressure from heat and fermentation caused some lids to pop and gooey, sticky soda had overtaken the inside of cupboards and all their contents! We all washed and scrubbed to exhaustion. Repeated day 2. A week later and I was still finding tiny , sticky puddles. Dog loved it! He slurped any that reached his level.

A root beer volcano! Inside the cupboard--yuck. I once dropped a full bottle of olive oil on the tiled kitchen floor. I cannot believe how long that took to clean up.
