NSD Yesterday

February 9th, 2017 at 09:31 pm

Y'all know I have a traveling bug, but I just turned down a weekend in NYC with friends--partially needing to make up for the one-salary stint, but also it's too tight a weekend for me in May. I'd have to leave the last day of the semester, and by then, I really need downtime more than a big city jaunt.

I had a weird "visual anomaly" for the past two nights that I was worried might be a retinal tear, but the opthamologist now says is a migraine event. I've never had what I'd consider a real migraine, but after the exam yesterday and pupil dilation, I had a whopper of a headache.

I haven't spent a dime since Saturday, but DD had a dental co-pay today that DH paid. I'll get that cash back from flex. I am going out with friends for drinks tomorrow, and although he's committed to the job offer, DH has another interview tomorrow.

Sorry about the visual anomaly. I used to get auras right before a whopper of a migraine. At first I would get wavy lines in my peripheral vision and then I would get where I couldn't see through the center of my vision after the wavy lines left. It made doing grad school a real challenge when I couldn't see the board. Are you eyes light sensitive? Mine are and I know certain things like bright lights as well as strobe lights can give me a migraine. Hope you can get on top of this because any type of migraine is miserable.

yep, Rob, that's exactly what happened to me. My eyes are very light sensitive, and though I wore sunglasses home from the doctor, my pupils were very dilated for hours.

Funny, I'm currently planning a few days in NYC in March to visit some friends (and see my beloved Cactus Blossoms play)! I love New York but yeah, it's not a "downtime" kind of city, and costs add up fast, so it sounds like you made the right choice in this case! I'm sure you'll have other chances to go.

The current job I'm at was one I ended up accepting after I'd already accepted an offer I wasn't as excited about (long commute being my biggest problem; the first one was out in Bloomington MN whereas the other place was a block away from the job I was leaving in downtown Minneapolis, a 10-minute bus ride from home). I felt really bad calling the other place because I knew their HR was pretty far along preparing for me, but I'm SO glad I went with the place I had a better feeling about. I've been here over 10 years; don't think I'd have lasted nearly that long at the other one, nor gotten to move into writing.

Thanks, ceejay. He feels odd about interviewing, but it can't hurt to talk, right? I think my MN buddy and I are going to Door County instead. He got a cute cottage last fall and it sounds inexpensive and relaxing. And since we're in the conjunction of worlds zone--that friend works in Bloomington, although she lives by Lake Harriet.

Worst migraine I ever had came after an eye appointment with dilation.

We loved Door County when we went several years ago! We drove through practically all the towns and stopped at a few. Really relaxing and nice. One of the towns has a British goods store!
