I almost got through the day with no spending, but then buckled down to reserve something for our last two days in the UK. We want to be near friends in Windsor so booked something in Maidenhead/Taplow. It has been a challenge to find something private enough for the four of us under $200/night. We had a lazy day; I watered the garden, did some laundry, and we watched the Tonys and read. I also made my first three Mason jar salads for lunch and cooked a whole chicken in the crockpot to keep the house cool. We'll see how the salad lunches go!

I don't know that I would have asked, but my husband kept finding super crazy low rates on sites like Expedia. When I made very clear I was not booking our hotel abroad through one of those sites, he would e-mail and ask if they could match the price. In every case they told him the expedia prices were like typos or they didn't include taxes (though said it was included) and all the many reasons I told him I Was NOT booking that way. BUT, then the hotel would always offer a substantial discount. Never hurts to ask!
{The hotel we booked is $2,100 right now for 10 days, for an apartment with kitchen and clothes washer. We paid $1,600. 24% savings, just for making an inquiry by e-mail}.
